Dollhouse Part 2: Making the Front Door

I’ve been absolutely in love trying my hand at diy miniatures!

You may remember from my previous post, I started working on my first dollhouse at the beginning of the year and it has been an absolute blast! With the exception of one thing, the front door that came with the house.

I hated it. It was difficult to put in, it didn’t give the vibe I wanted with my house, and just all around I didn’t like it. Well, the wonderful thing about the miniature world is that you can make the things exactly how you want them. So I got to work and I made this:

diy miniatures front door from doll house kit and beads

I love this door. It’s big and overwhelming, perfect for a spooky Victorian (why all the spooky doors are big doors, I’ll never know). I gave it some lived in texture by dry brushing and a cute door knocker from beads. I think it is so much better for a creepy dollhouse, and I had a lot of fun making it.

How I Made The Door

These are the tools and materials I used to make the door for those that are interested:

I did also use a silicone craft mat to make clean up much, much easier.

If you want to see how I put it all together step by step and made this spooktacular door, I did post the video on my YouTube channel so you can watch the process.

I can’t wait to do more of the dollhouse and watch it all come together. I would also still love your input on what rooms should be included and where. I have plans for one room, but that leaves 5 rooms that I would love ideas for. Please leave a comment for what rooms you think belong where!

I’m so happy to have started this journey and to have you all with me!

Happy crafting!
