So, every year I like to try and challenge myself creatively and I have recently fell in love with watching people make diy miniatures. I don’t know what it is about tiny things, but they’re wonderful and I’m always impressed by the people who are able to make them. The greatest set back to starting to venture into the miniature world is that miniaturing can be a very expensive hobby. Very expensive.
Yarn crafting on its own is already a very expensive hobby. Even many of the cheaper acrylic skeins can easily add up when working on large projects, and the cost of patterns can also set people back and make crafting inaccessible to many. That’s one of the reasons why I started Sara’s Craft Corner – to help make crafting more accessible to more people. I try to produce as many free patterns as I can, and with premium patterns, I still try to keep them at a reasonable price.
So when it came to trying my hand at a new hobby, affordability was a major factor for me. New dollhouse kits can easily run into the hundreds. Even used ones on my local market place are prohibitively expensive, so I put the idea of trying my hand at miniatures to the back burner.
Until I found the perfect little kit that would allow me to try out making a miniature without making a huge investment into the hobby; a wood dollhouse puzzle kit.
This cute little dollhouse puzzle made from wood, is close to a 1:24 scale, and was around $20. It made it the perfect opportunity to test out miniature making.
However, me being me, I do plan on making this house as amazing as I can and thought I would take you all on that journey with me. My goal is to try and make most of what I use to decorate it and to source materials as reasonably priced as I can to keep the cost of this little house low.
I do still plan on making patterns and tutorials (I currently have two of each in the works). This was just a craft I’ve always been fascinated by and wanted to share that journey with you.
If you wanted to watch my adventure on YouTube (or you’re here because you wanted to know how to assemble the NWFashion Gothic Puzzle), the video of my introducing the project and assembling it is below.
I can’t wait to do more with this project and share my journey with you!
Happy New Year and Happy Crafting!
