Since it’s 2020, I thought it would be fun to do a vintage-inspired knitting pattern as a throw back to the 1920. This chunky turban headband gives a nod to the 1920s, while still being fun and modern. It uses super chunky yarn that is super soft and keeps you warm in the winter without the worry of hat hair.
One of my favorite aspects of this headband is that it’s virtually seamless (if you do the provisional cast on and grafting). No weird seam ruining the look of your headband or rubbing up against your head.
For this pattern, you’ll need the following:
- 1 skein of Lion Brand Hometown USA in Key Largo Tweed or your preferred colorway
- Size US 11 (8 mm) knitting needles
- Size US 11 (8 mm) double pointed needle
- at least 1-2 yards of scrap yarn
- crochet hook
- tapestry needle
You can get the pattern for free by downloading it here or watching the video below.

Happy knitting!
I must have done something wrong because after the twist my ribs don’t match when I put it together. It’s like I have a wrong side and a right side facing up on either side of the twist. I wish I would have noticed before I got to the grafting step. I can take half out but not sure what I did wrong at the twist stage. I watched the video several times and then did it with the video.
Hi Janice, I’m really sorry to hear you’re having trouble with it. Would you be willing to take a picture and email it to be at SarasCraftCorner@gmail.com so I can try to help you through it? Sometimes the cable twist part gets flipped around on itself and it might be possible to straighten it out to twist properly without frogging.
I figured it out. I only had 20 stitches to make it a little smaller and the pattern doesn’t work that way. Redid it and it’s fine. Now the grafting!

Glad you were able to figure it out! The pattern works on repeats of 8, so you would have to cast on 16 sts for a smaller headband.
